Westbrook

Edgar Joseph Gorneau of Westbrook passed away on June 18. Ed was born Jan. 30, 1932, in St. David, Maine, the son of Louis and Mary Gorneault. Ed moved to Westbrook more than 60 years ago with his first wife Anita of 43 years raising their four children. After the passing of his first wife, Ed met his second wife Joan Guarnaccia Gorneau and they were married for more than 26 years. Ed and Joan had the opportunity for many years to have a home in Florida, which they both loved. They also were able to travel to many different places and one of their favorites was when they traveled to Alaska.

Ed worked for many years as a general contractor building many homes along the shoreline. He was member of the Westbrook Elks Club and a parishioner of St. Mark Church in Westbrook; he and his company built the balcony in St. Mark Church, which he was very proud of. Ed also enjoyed golfing and taking his daily walks.

Ed is survived by his wife Joan; children Theresa Johnson, Angela Judkins, Raymond Gorneau, and Daniel Gorneau (True); stepchildren Rose Monroe, Mary Shurtleff (Bud), Jack Guarnaccia (Karen), and Mark Guarnaccia (Marilynne); four grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. Ed is also survived by his brother Gerard and sisters Jeanine Corriveau and Gisele Chamberland.

Ed was predeceased by his first wife Anita, his grandson Erik Johnson, his son-in-law Bob Judkins, one brother, and five sisters.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 23, in St. Mark Church, 222 McVeagh Road, Westbrook. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Westbrook. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
