Madison

Anthony Cavallaro, Jr., of Westbrook, formerly of Madison, passed away on June 13 at the age of 82.

Anthony, affectionately known as Tony, was born in New Haven to the late Anthony and Catherine (Iovino) Cavallaro. From an early age, Tony wanted to become a barber and open his own shop. He fulfilled this by opening Tony’s Barber Shop in Madison 57 years ago, where he continued to cut hair until his death, with his longtime friend and business partner Richie Santanelli. Today, Tony’s Barber Shop is the oldest established business on Main Street in Madison.

Tony was blessed with a loving family. He met Frances Anne Rovnak on a blind date in Milford. They married shortly thereafter, and their 47-year romance blessed them with four wonderful children and two grandchildren.

Tony was known to be fun loving. He never met a stranger and loved entertaining. He enjoyed playing countless games of poker with his many friends, where he occasionally won a hand or two. Always evident was his love of family and friends. Tony cared deeply about friends of Bill W., actively helping and sponsoring for more than 42 years.

Tony was preceded in death by his wife Fran and son Christopher Cavallaro. He is survived by his daughter Toni DeMaio (Vito) of Toms River, New Jersey; sons, Jason Cavallaro (Leslie) of Madison and Paul Cavallaro (Jennifer) of Guilford; daughter-in-law Pamela Cavallaro of North Branford; granddaughter Victoria DeMaio and grandson Carmine DeMaio, both of Toms River, New Jersey; and his beloved fiancée Carole Potter of Madison.

Family will receive friends from 3 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 17, at Swan Funeral Home, 80 East Main Street, Clinton, followed by a short service.
