Branford

Vincent A. “Vinnie” Thomas of Branford passed away on June 3 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Ann Callan Thomas. Vinnie was born in New Haven on Aug. 9, 1926, son of the late Albert and Sadie Raimundo Thomas.

Vinnie was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Navy. He was an Iwo Jima survivor and was an active member of the Iwo Jima Survivors Association. He was the editor of the Iwo Jima Journal. Vinnie was a 60-year member and past commander of the American Legion Post 83 in Branford, where he served as the historian for the past 35 years. He had worked as the operations manager for TNT Pilot in Wallingford for many years until retiring.

Besides Ann, Vinnie is survived by his stepson Donald Twarowski of Branford; stepdaughter Debra Sepulveda (Jose) of New Haven; son Vincent Morico of West Haven; daughter Catherine Thomas Longyear of New Haven; niece Sadie Bergeron (Anthony) of Branford; several nieces and nephews; grandsons Jason Carasone of New Haven, Michael Carasone (Michele) of West Haven, and Christopher Sepulveda of Beverly Hills, California; granddaughter Stacey Wheeler of Las Vegas; great-grandson Matthew Carasone of West Haven; and great-granddaughter Kailey Wheeler of Jamestown, California. He was predeceased by his brother Albert Thomas, Jr., his sister Theresa Tomasi D’Adamo, and his stepdaughter Sandra Twarowski.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service at noon on Friday morning, June 10, at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and may visit prior to the service from 10:30 a.m. to noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 99 Indian Neck Ave., Branford, CT 06405.
