Madison

Marie Clark-Jacobs passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 31. Born in 1920, the daughter of John and Johanna Heinold, Marie lived a full life of 101 years.

A lifelong resident of Madison, Marie worked 32 years for the Madison Public School system. Hired in 1953, she was the only secretary in the system. As Madison grew, so did her job. She retired as the business administrator of the school system in 1985. Marie always had a love of learning. After her retirement this led her to enroll at Southern Connecticut State University. She graduated summa cum laude at the age of 76.

Marie was married 40 years to Clayton Clark until his passing in 1982. Widowed many years, she married Peter Jacobs in 1998 until his passing in 2004. Marie had a zest for life, never afraid to meet a challenge. She loved to travel, swim, golf, paint, and especially play cards. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church. Most of all she loved her family.

Marie leaves behind her daughter Dorcas Fontaine and husband Allyn of Madison; two grandchildren, James Young (Lori Hauser) of Clinton and Heather Fitzgerald (David) of Madison; and four great-grandchildren, Meghan and Tessa Young and Cameron and Donovan Fitzgerald.

Marie was a strong, smart, dignified, and loving woman who struggled with dementia in the last years of her life. Her family wants to thank the nursing staff of the Hearth for taking such good care of her. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 10, in Evergreen Cemetery, Green Hill Road, Killingworth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Madison Ambulance Association. To sign her online guestbook, visit www.swanfuneralhomemadison.com.
