East Haven

George D. Harrison, 90, beloved husband of the late Pearl A. (Morrison) Harrison, of East Haven, entered peaceful rest on May 12 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was the son of the late Harry Harrison, Sr., and Mary (Skojec) Harrison. He was born July 28, 1931, in Bridgeport.

George served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a machinist at Pratt & Whitney in North Haven before his retirement. He loved the ocean and started his life living in a cottage right on the beach in Milford, with Pearl and his three children. Later in years, they moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida. The family moved to their final home in East Haven in 1969.

George and Pearl celebrated their 50th anniversary with family and friends in 2009. He kept active and through his life he enjoyed spending time dancing with Pearl, metal detecting, fishing, playing checkers, and being with family. George often shared his memory of how he and Pearl would sing, “You are My Sunshine,” while walking down the street together when they were dating. In recent years, George was known for his daily walks to Dunkin’ Donuts for coffee.

George is survived by three children, Donna Harrison of East Haven, George Harrison, Jr. (Gail) of Lincoln, Maine, and Noreen Wilson (Don) of East Haven. He leaves four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brother Edmond Weber of Walton, Kentucky; his brother, Harry, Fred, and Leonard predeceased him.

The family will have a private celebration of his life. Donations can be made in honor of his life to the Connecticut Hospice at www.hospice.com or mailed to 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
