Anne D’Agostino

Anne Ieva D’Agostino, of North Haven, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Marbridge Retirement Center, Cheshire, on April 29 at the age of 98. Born in New Haven on Jan. 12, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Chiarina Criscuolo Ieva.

Anne was predeceased by her beloved husband and childhood sweetheart, Hugo Michael D’Agostino. Anne was the loving mother of Ellen D’Agostino McGuire of North Haven and Thomas D’Agostino of North Branford. She was the cherished grandmother of Erin McGuire Marquis (David) of East Haven, Kara McGuire Redente (Joseph) of Wallingford, Jaimee Lynn D’Agostino of Branford, and the late Robert (Bobby) C. McGuire, Jr. She also leaves behind her two precious great-grandchildren, Marco D’Agostino-Vaiuso and Serena Faith Redente. She is survived by her sister Mary Ieva Palmisano of East Haven and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, husband, and grandson, Anne was predeceased by her son-in-law Robert C. McGuire, Sr., and her cherished sisters, Betty DiCicco, Louise Ricciuti, and Rose Palmisano.

Anne was a high honors graduate of Hillhouse High School and attended the former New Haven School of Business on a full scholarship. She had a long career in the commercial and health insurance industry here in Connecticut. Known for her beautiful soprano voice, she was a soloist in the choir at Saint Rose of Lima Church (Our Lady of Guadalupe) in New Haven, for many years. Her modest claim to fame was an invitation to audition as a chorale singer with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. The orchestra was a Big Band staple at the famous Rainbow Room in New York City, during the 1940s. Anne was a talented crafter and was often seen at craft fairs throughout New Haven County, with her granddaughters in tow. She would be surrounded by her beautiful handmade dolls, hand-sewn kitchen and bedroom items, holiday ornaments, and whimsical Christmas angels.

She was an active member of the Saint Barnabas Church community in North Haven. She made recurring culinary contributions to the church’s participation in Midnight Run, a group that feeds the homeless, and served as a committee chair and member of the Saint Barnabas annual Holiday Bazaar. She was active in the Saint Rose of Lima Parent Teacher Association, Saint Rose of Lima Ladies Guild, and the Sacred Heart Academy Mother’s Club. Always the guiding light of her family, Anne leaves behind a legacy of love, family, generosity, caring, and selflessness for her family to follow. She will be very sorely missed by all of those who loved her most. Anne’s family would like to thank the staff at Marbridge Assisted Living and Constellation Hospice Care for the exceptional love and care that was extended to her during her final months.

The visiting hours will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, at the Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue.
