East Haven

Susan Bitgood, 65, of East Haven passed away on April 29 at St. Raphael Campus of Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born July 28, 1956, in New Haven to Kenneth and Helen (Cropley) Clark.

Susan is survived by her loving siblings Marie Deri (David) of Fairfield, Paul Moody (Linda) of Branford, Kenneth Clark, Jr. (Charlotte) of Branford, Robin Notarino (Andrew) of East Haven, Richard Clark of East Haven, and Timothy Clark (Rose) of North Carolina, along with numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Nicole Clark of East Haven and Patricia Moody of Prospect.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Steven Bitgood (1998), and two siblings, James Moody and Thomas Clark.

Sue was always a free spirit right from her beginnings. She was the type to dive right into any adventure that she chose fit at the time without a second thought. That is how she lived life. Laughing with her family or best friend Patty was most important to her. Everything had humor in it as far as Sue saw it. Sue also loved the beach, especially the shores of Cape Cod, at which she often vacationed with her husband Steve and her family.

Sue was such a loyal person to family and friends alike. Be it her family, her lifelong friend Patty, or her sisters-in-law Annette and Beverly, everyone one so important to her. Her heart was simply wonderful.

Sue struggled for many years with diabetes, which led to so many health complications, but Sue just kept strong and moved forward. The strength and will inside Sue was something that was nothing short of amazing.

Sue is finally free of the devastating effects of diabetes and is now watching over all of us with her late husband Steve and her mother, father and two brothers from heaven. Sue is missed so much already, but we all know that she’s always with us in heart.

Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, in Elm Grove Cemetery, 197 Greenmanville Avenue, Mystic. Services are in the care of the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Avenue, East Haven.
