Madison

Robert “Bobby” Casula, 87, passed away on April 2 in The Villages, Florida, with his daughter and dear friend Ken by his side. Bobby bravely battled lung cancer since 2014. He was born in Madison on Aug. 15, 1934, to Constantine Sini and Andrew Casula. He graduated from Daniel Hand High School and took a job with the Town of Madison.

Bobby was a bachelor until he married Lorraine Sauter Oct. 25, 1982. They lived in Madison in the house in which Lorraine was born, and they wintered in Bonita Springs, Florida, at Worthington Country Club for more than 26 years. He worked at the Madison Country Club in high school and that is where he found his love for golf. He was the oldest member there for years.

Bobby worked for the Town of Madison for 45 years after high school. When he retired, he worked at the Madison Beach Club as a maintenance man. Bobby was always fixing things. So one day he opened a lawn mower repair business in his garage. He loved visiting with all the people who came by.

When they retired to Bonita, Bobby still got up at 5 a.m. and went to work at Speedway, making coffee for hours. One day a supervisor was in the store and he asked Bobby what he was doing and the guy said, ‘You need to be put on the payroll for liability reasons.’ From then on, Bobby started to get a paycheck again. Lorraine was mad that they didn’t give him retroactive pay, which would have been around $80,000. Bobby also volunteered at the Lion’s Club regularly, to help out. Bobby and Lorraine loved to travel, and they took some amazing adventures together.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and served his country for five years. He was always proud to wear his veteran hat. Bobby was one of a kind. He was gentle and soft spoken, and he had the best sense of humor, which he inherited from his mother. He was very thoughtful, generous, and loving. He took wonderful care of his wife when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Everyone who got to know Bobby, loved him. He had more friends everywhere he went. People called him the “Mayor.”

He loved to collect old things, and he had quite a collection in his garage from cool stuff from the dump. Whenever he gave someone something special, it usually came from the dump! Bobby loved riding his bike from a young age, and continued into his 80s. He had a substantial collection of baseball cards, which he enjoyed. The last 20 years he was Lorraine’s chauffeur.

Bobby has three stepdaughters, Wendy Berman of Danville, Vermont, Lynn Anne Lajeunesse of The Villages, Florida , and Wells, Maine, and Mollie Acebo of New London. We never called him stepdad. He was our dad in every way and we were his daughters. Bobby is predeceased by his loving wife Lorraine; his parents Andrew and Tina; and seven brothers: John, Peter, Wayne, James, Paul, Thomas, and Andrew, Jr., as well as a sister, Mary, and his brother-in- aw and best friend George Sauter. When their grandchildren came along, Bobby was named “BOPA,” and that name stuck with him his entire life. He lived next door to two of his grandchildren for years and they were very close, Reed Sauter and Jacob Robert. He is survived by all nine grandchildren: Megan (Martin) Lancaster, Travis Berman, Josh (Kelsey) Berman, Emily Lajeunesse, Shara (Jeff) Vitagliano, Hannah (Jason) Lajeunesse, and Eric (Allie) Lajeunesse. Bobby was blessed to have six great-grandchildren: Tristan, Tymir, Kenley, Trevor, Parker, and Luke.

Bobby’s favorite place to go over the years was the office! At 4 p.m., he would show up to his reserved chair and have drinks and visit with friends. Everyone who knew Bobby, loved him. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family, but our memories will last our life time.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15 (his birthday) at the West Cemetery in Madison. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife of 40 years Lorraine. A reception will follow.
