North Haven

Lorraine M. McDermott Jacobs, 89, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, April 24, at Apple Rehab, Guilford, with her family by her side. Lorraine was born in New Haven, July 28, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Marie E. Mansfield McDermott.

She enjoyed a long career as a New Haven school bus driver and served as their union steward. Lorraine was a true animal lover, adopting and caring for many cats and dogs, but her greatest joy was her horses. She impressed many with her trick riding skills, winning many awards and ribbons.

She was predeceased by her brothers Robert, Daniel, and Gerard McDermott and her grandchildren Vincent Latela and Ana Sorge. She is survived by Melinda Jones and her husband Charlie, Brenda Sorge and her husband Greg, and Gena Mazzetta. She was grandmother of her beloved Dawn, Codie, Zachary, Kyle, Rose, Liam, Jared, Anthony, and Gabriel and great-grandmother of Charlie, Charlotte, and Autumn.

Family and friends are invited at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning, April 28, to go directly to St. Anthony’s Church, Washington Avenue, New Haven, to attend a Mass of Christian burial, and are also invited to attend the committal service immediately following in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Haven, Inc, 89 Mill Road, North Haven, CT 06473.
