Chester

Harold Clifford Jones, Jr., 85, of Chester passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, April 9, at his home surrounded by his family. Harold was the beloved husband of Linda (Sturdevant) Jones for 60 years. He was born in Middletown on Nov. 1, 1936, the son of Harold Clifford Jones and Kathleen (Limeburner) Jones.

Harold had been a resident of Chester for more than 60 years and was a member of the United Church of Chester, where he had served as the church’s financial secretary. He was the lead man at Chester Lumber Company and also had worked at C.J. Bates Company and the Royal Display Corporation. Harold also was a milkman. He loved to be outdoors and enjoyed being in his vegetable garden, splitting wood, and roofing. Harold had served the Chester community as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals; he also had served his country as a member of the Connecticut National Guard.

Besides his wife Linda, he leaves his daughter Brenda Jones and her husband Scott Schneeberg of Montville; his son Andrew Jones and his wife Emily of Newtown; his daughter-in-law Jeanne Jones of West Hartford; his six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Jesse Michael; his sister Patricia Kosky of Chester; and many nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by his son Michael Jones.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, at the United Church of Chester, 29 West Main Street in Chester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harold’s name to the United Church of Chester Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 383, Chester, CT 06412.
