Guilford

Melissa Lee (McDonald) Smith of Guilford passed away on April 4 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Melissa was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on Aug. 2, 1967, daughter of Thomas K. McDonald and Donna (Ritchie) McDonald .

She was the beloved wife of Stanford Scott Smith, loving mother of son William Thomas Smith and daughter Logan Ann Smith, and sister of T.R. McDonald of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Melissa is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her children were her passion and she was delighted to attend William’s graduation from the University of South Carolina last year and to know Logan will graduate from the University of Connecticut this spring.

She formerly worked as a travel agent, sales attendant at Nordstrom, and flight attendant for Pan American World Airways, where she furthered her love of people, travel, and adventure. She planned and loved frequent road trips to visit her family in Minnesota and to enjoy Christmas and summers on the lake at her parent’s cabin. She enjoyed watching all sports, especially football, baseball, golf, and basketball, and loved spending time with her three dogs, Baxter, Finley, and Winston. She had a talent for interior design and writing poems every year for her husband’s birthday.

Her funeral service was held on April 9 in the First Congregational Church, Guilford. Burial was private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306; https://t2t.org.
