Madison

John F. “Jack” O’Connor, Jr., passed away on March 19. He was born in Great Neck, New York, on Nov. 14, 1940, to Anne Dennelly and John F. O’Connor, Sr. He was the beloved husband of Margaret and treasured dad of Gregory J. O’Connor, both of Madison.

Jack was raised in Queens, New York, and attended St. Teresa’s School, Archbishop Molloy High School, and Fairleigh Dickinson University. He met his wife of 54 years, Margaret, in the Hamptons, and they were married in Rockville Centre, New York. Jack’s professional career in the packaging industry included many years of service for International Paper and St Regis Paper Box.

Jack and Marge made their homes in Bronxville, New York and Norwood, Massachusetts, before settling in Madison for the past 51 years. Jack loved all sports and was active in tennis, paddle tennis, basketball, softball, and golf. He was a member of the Madison Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf for 30 years. He coached Little League baseball and basketball for his son’s teams—and his son Greg, fondly known as “Oak,” returned the favor by coaching his dad in golf.

Jack was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Joseph. In addition to his wife and son, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Cheryl O’Connor; two brothers and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Richard O’Connor and Mr. and Mrs. Michael O’Connor; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in John's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital
