Guilford

Melinda (Peterson) Ricker, 62, lifelong resident of Guilford passed away on March 15 after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Melinda, eldest child of the late Nils and Rochelle Peterson, was born April 2, 1959, in New Haven. A graduate of Guilford High School and Central Connecticut State College, Melinda enjoyed a professional career in banking, eventually retiring to focus her love and time on her family, her home, and her gardens. She was happiest at home, caring for all her loved ones, baking, cooking, quilting, entertaining, and especially gardening. Melinda was a beautiful soul and a kind and generous wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.

Melinda was the cherished wife of Dan Ricker and beloved mother to two children, Kevin Ricker of Guilford and Erica Ricker of Old Saybrook. Four-year-old grandson, Gannon Ricker, was a bright light and source of great joy in Melinda’s life. She also leaves behind a large and loving extended family: MaryLou (Dennis) Cadwell, Melanie Martin, Pam Smith, Beth Peterson, Laura (Jason) Rendano, Matthew Peterson, Debbie (Bob) Parcella, David Ricker, Dale (Val Nettleton) Ricker, and her in-laws, William and Joan Ricker. In addition, Melinda will be missed dearly by her many nieces and nephews and their children. Melinda was predeceased by her nephew, Kyle Martin.
