Westbrook

Elaine Marie Peyton, 80, formerly of Westbrook, and West Palm Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home in Cape Coral, Florida, surrounded by her loving daughters on March 12. Elaine was born Sept. 6, 1941, in Hartford, to the late Verne and Marie Johnson.

Elaine spent many happy years in Westbrook where she enjoyed her favorite hobbies of gardening and baking her famous pies. Elaine spent her life dedicated to raising her children, who were her prized procession. She reveled in being a part of her grandchildren’s lives, from the moment they were born. She enjoyed many glorious years of her life with Jerry traveling in their minivan to spend time with family, from the lakes of Minnesota to the shores of New England. Elaine was known to always have a bucket of her famous “Mimi Cookies” waiting for her grandchildren to enjoy during their visits. Always attached to her hips were her precious pups Lisa, Max, Mojo, and Attie. In the gentleness of her passing, when asked by one of the many pastors who came to visit and pray with her, Elaine described having her daughters and grandchildren by her side as “Just awesome.” Her kind and gentle soul will live on with the endless memories we all have of Elaine.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband Francis J. Spreda, Sr. of Westbrook (1987), as well as her beloved husband Jerry N. Peyton of Port Charlotte, Florida (2016). Elaine is survived by her daughters, Christine Marie Calkins of Cape Coral, Florida, Cheryleen Marie Calkins of Middletown, and Laureen Marie DeLucco (Dan) of North Port, Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren whom she cherished, Christopher F. Hallahan and his wife Brittney, Cory Hallahan and his wife Mallory, Elijah Jones, Cydney Hallahan, and Daniele DeLucco, as well as her precious great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Ellie. Elaine is also survived by her sister Anita Eby of West Palm Beach, Florida; her two nieces, Lisa and Tina; and nephew Michael. Elaine shared her heart not only with immediate family, but with her many close friends and church families of West Palm Beach, Florida.

Elaine’s family members would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the friends and family who reached out with love and support during her final days.

A memorial service is planned for Elaine at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, at Neighborhood Worship Center, 6513 Dillman Road, Greenacres, Florida 33413. The family requests that everyone attending the service to please wear bright and cheerful colors as Elaine loved to do herself. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elaine’s memory to Hope Hospice, at Donate.HopeHCS.org.
