North Haven

Richard G. Cecarelli, 77, of North Haven passed away peacefully on March 14 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ann Bellucci Cecarelli for 55 years.

Richard was born in Middletown on March 19, 1944, and was the son of the late Loretta Richards Cecarelli. He worked as a longshoreman for New Haven Terminal for almost 40 years until his retirement. Richard was an avid hunter and gardener, and he enjoyed fishing, clamming, crabbing, beekeeping, and a general love for spending time outdoors. His true enjoyment was being with his grandchildren, whom he loved unconditionally.

He was the father of Rich Cecarelli (Jenn) and Melissa Ruocco (Mike); grandfather of Charlotte and Andrew Cecarelli and Corinne, Cameron, and Maddie Ruocco; and brother of Skip Cecarelli, Kathy Secondino, and Edward Cecarelli.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at the Smilow Cancer Hospital (especially Dr. Hari Deshpande, the nursing staff on the 8th floor, and nurse Sarah in the ICU), and also the Connecticut Hospice, Branford for the excellent comfort and care they provided.

The visiting hours will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, March 18, at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A graveside service will follow at 12:15 p.m. in the North Haven Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Closer to Free Fund, Smilow c/o Yale-New Haven Hospital Development, P.O. Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508.
