North Haven

Patricia Ann “Patty” Nichols, 76, of North Haven passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on March 13. She was raised in Hamden and one of five children from the late Dr. Charles Sommers and Shirley (Shannon) Sommers.

Patty is survived by her husband of 45 years Robert Nichols; three daughters, Deborah Ainsworth, Susan Bennett, and Katherine (Alex) Biro; and five grandchildren, Genna, Ethan, Charlotte, Anthony, and Kayla. She leaves behind her siblings Susan (Nick) Marinello, Charles Sommers, Steve (Diane) Sommers, and John Sommers as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was the first woman computer programmer at the United Illuminating, where she worked for 35 years. Pat and Bob raised their children in North Haven. They camped at Gardner Lake with the kids every summer. She was a member of the North Haven Women’s Club and PTA and enjoyed puzzles, quilting, and crosswords. Upon retirement, Pat loved spending time with her grandkids, whom she loved tremendously. From soccer and baseball games to recitals to time by the pool, Pat loved every moment.

The visiting hours will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 18, at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
