Branford

Wayne G. Childs of Branford passed away on Feb. 18 at the Hospital of St. Raphael. He was the husband of Nancy Miller Childs of Branford.

He was the father of David Childs of Quincy, Massachusetts, Paul Childs (Jan) of North Haven, and Stephen (Renie) Childs of Branford and the grandfather of Scott (Lauren) Childs, Gregory Childs, Danielle Childs-Cook, and Dalton Childs. In addition, he is survived by seven great-grandchildren, Jason, Lilly, Kaity, Chelsea, Richard, Dakota, and Teagan. He also leaves his sisters Marilyn Stiles and Lois Childs, both of Branford, as well as niece and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by his cousin Donald Lacy and brother-in-law Henry Stiles. Wayne was born in New Haven on Dec. 21, 1939, to George and Doris Mansfield Childs. He was a graduate of North Haven High School and the University of Connecticut. He worked at Union Trust Company for many years and after retirement worked for Diagnostic Medical Lab.

His greatest joy was his wife and family. He loved his home on the water and enjoyed boating from nine years of age. He and Nancy enjoyed weekend boat trips with their friends. He loved watching his children and grandchildren swim and play hockey. He was a fan of UConn and Quinnipiac sports, New York Rangers and New York Giants.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, March 19, at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street. Friends may call prior to the service from 10 a.m. to noon.
