Robert Llewellyn “Bob” Davis passed away on Feb. 10. He is survived by his loving wife Helen Davis. He was born in 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah, son of the late Arthur R. Davis and Abby Squires Davis, and brother to his late sister Margaret Clawson and late brother Richard Davis. He leaves his nephew David Clawson and niece Meg Osguthorpe both in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Bob attended the University of Utah and was a graduate of the New York School of Design. He loved living and working in New York and Connecticut as designer and space planner. His client base was a diverse assortment of commercial and residential.

He and his wife Helen created “The Seraph,” a shop of shops in the historic Victorian Boardman mansion in East Haddam, with an apartment on the upper two floors. Bob won national design awards for the apartment and shop interiors. Each year he created a special Christmas exterior—the most famous was wrapping the building in a giant red ribbon. After selling the East Haddam properties to The Goodspeed Foundation, they moved to Essex and joined the staff of the Connecticut River Museum. Bob created the museum store space and together with Helen did the store purchasing for 16 years.

Bob was a creative soul who possessed a unique eye for collecting from items small to large and his favorite stained glass pieces.

He was always an animal lover. As a child, it was Alice, the elephant in the Salt Lake City Zoo. In East Haddam, he took his injured cat Crystal to the veterinarian every day for years.

He was talented and creative. His smile, laughter, and sense of humor will be missed by friends and family.
