Guilford

Dale L. Woodhouse, “The CAT Man” of Guilford, died on Feb. 18. Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, in 1940, he is predeceased by his wife of 47 years Audrey L. Woodhouse.

He is survived by his children, sons Todd and Craig Woodhouse and daughter Melissa Woodhouse, and grandchildren Margaret Ann and Christopher Woodhouse, Collin Woodhouse, Michaeljohn and Matthew Alio, and Emily Woodhouse.

Dale started his career at H.O. Penn, as a mechanic in Poughkeepsie, New York and shortly after they moved to Newington, and he worked at H.O. Penn. After a few years, they built their dream house in Guilford and he started working for himself as a mechanic, repairing heavy equipment. His specialty was the CAT engines. He was known as “The CAT Man” who could always fix anything.

He bought his own truck, a 1973 Kenworth, and started hauling for various companies, serving as mechanic during the day and trucking at night. His Ol’ girl, he called his night train. He is known as a legend, for being the oldest man still driving an original 1973 Kenworth. Everyone knew his Ol’ girl—she was a beauty, always sparkling. He always dressed in a button-down western shirt, jeans, and cowboy boots! He and his Ol’ girl were quite the team. I’m grateful she always brought my dad home safe. The younger generation loved to hear his stories or listen to old tricks to fix things. His hobby was woodworking; he was a very talented man, and will be deeply missed, but he is with his one and only again.
