Branford

Esther Lyon, of Branford died peacefully on Nov. 29, 2021. She was married to Frank Lyon for 48 years, before his passing in 1991. Originally from Massachusetts and a Connecticut resident many years, she and Frank moved to California in 1984. Missing the New England seasons and her family as well as her many friends on the East Coast, she returned to Connecticut in 2004.

Esther got involved with every church she attended, always willing to help in any capacity she could. She and Frank started a Bible study in Newtown, which developed into a church meeting at the high school library in Newtown, where Esther played the organ during services. She and Frank had a gathering at their house on Sunday nights, where church friends and family could enjoy a potluck dinner, fellowship, and song. Many came to the Lord, got baptized by Frank in the high school pool, and went on to lead changed lives, thanks to their devotion to bringing as many as possible to salvation.

Esther was always up, dressed, and had her makeup on, ready to be picked up at any moment by Frank to explore a construction site or go on some adventure. She was also quite entrepreneurial, having her own catering, wedding cake, and floral design businesses for many years.

She attributed her long, healthy life and youthful good looks to eating a salad every day and keeping her heart at peace. At her recent 96th birthday party, she was eating corn on the cob and cracking open a lobster like a pro. She will be greatly missed by many all over the U.S., Scotland, Canada, even Africa, where she went on a mission trip at the age of 85.

Esther is survived by 5 of her 6 children, 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren living in Connecticut, California, New York, Maryland, and Pakistan.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, at Branford Bible Chapel, 212 Branford Road, North Branford, and via Zoom. Please email wendythelyon@gmail.com to RSVP for the service and Zoom info.
