Deep River

Richard J. Billings, Jr., 72, of Deep River passed away on Jan. 8, 2021, at Middlesex Hospital after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 15, 1948, in Lowell, Massachusetts, to Richard J. Billings, Sr. and Ethel (Thurlow) Billings. Rich grew up in New Haven and later moved to Clinton, where he graduated from The Morgan School Class of 1965. He went on to graduate from the University of New Haven in 1970 with a degree in business.

Rich leaves behind his wife of 51 years Catherine (Taylor) Billings of Deep River, his daughter Jennifer Lentz (Ralph) of Deep River, his son Steven Billings (Zoe) of Santa Cruz, California, and three grandchildren, Nathan Lentz and Theron and Oona Billings.

Rich will be remembered as an avid sports fan who followed the exploits of his children as well as collegiate and professional teams, most notably those at Yale University; he possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of Yale Football.

He will be remembered by his children as a loving and supportive father who showed a genuine interest in the lives of his children and grandchildren. His soothing voice and strong sense of humor were of great comfort especially during difficult times. Like most New Englanders, Rich was obsessed with the weather, always looking forward to the next sunny day and appreciating it fully when it arrived.
