Paul Eugene Cryan, 99

Madison

Paul Eugene Cryan, 99, of Madison, Fairfield, and Mohill, County Leitrim, Ireland, died on Jan. 20.

Paul was born Aug. 11, 1922, to Anna (O’Reilly) Cryan and John Philip Cryan and grew up in Lowell, Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his six brothers and two sisters.

During World War II, he was a sheet metal worker in the U.S. Navy. On Oct. 13, 1945, he married Pearl (Mott) Cryan. He was predeceased by Pearl; an infant, Karen; and a grandson. He is survived by four children, Paul John (and Sue) Cryan, Gail DeVito, Pam (and Bob) Skelly, and Sharon Cryan (and Jon Everett); eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He has dozens of nieces and nephews.

On Oct. 11, 1978, he married Loretta (McAuley, Buell) Cryan and acquired more nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Loretta.

He retired from Sikorsky Aircraft as an aircraft designer in 1984. He obtained dual citizenship and moved to Ireland to be near Sarah (Prunty) Carleton. He acquired a ready-made family of five adult children, their spouses, and 11 grandchildren. He rented a large home to encourage relatives and friends to visit.

Paul returned in 2017 to live with Pam’s family in Madison, where he attended St. Margaret’s Church. He was an active member of prayer groups throughout his life and had many close friends.

There will be a memorial service in August.
