East Haven

Josephine M. Pesce Ardito, 96, of East Haven passed away peacefully on Jan. 18 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford. She was the beloved wife of the late George Ardito. Josephine was born in New Haven on Aug. 19, 1925, the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Marion Aceto Pesce.

A 1943 graduate of East Haven High School, Josephine worked for Sargent & Company and Talon Zipper and as a lunch mother at Deer Run School, East Haven for 28 years until her retirement. Josephine was an avid UConn Huskies fan for both the boys’ and girls’ basketball. She also enjoyed going to Fort Hale and Old Saybrook on weekends to meet her friends while their husbands fished.

She was the mother of Susan Kelly and the late Georgette (Ardito) Durante; mother-in-law of Charles Kelly and Joseph Durante; grandmother of Tara Harvie, Joseph (Elizabeth) Durante, Jill (John Paul) Grego, and Julie (Jason) DaCosta; great-grandmother of Emma and Mila Durante; and sister of Angelina Landino and the late Anthony (Fish) Pesce, Vivian Bruno, Jean Piscitelli, Rose Carbo, and Lena Esposito. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Susan would like to extend a special thank you to Mary, Josephine’s caregiver, for all her love and support and also to Jackie Chieppo for being a special friend to her mom and always being there to help whole heartedly.
