Guilford

Joyce Suker Topping, born Jan. 2, 1940, in Guilford, passed away on Jan. 9. Joyce was predeceased by Barbara (Rolfe) Suker and John Suker, both of Guilford.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Alden Topping, Jr., of Killingworth. The couple just celebrated 63 years of marriage. Joyce and Lloyd’s children are Lloyd Alden Topping, III (Linda Topping), Christopher Raymond Topping, Sr. (Karen Topping), Diane Millett (Donald Millett), and Shawn Lee Topping, Sr. Their grandchildren include Christopher Raymond Topping, Jr., Amanda Joy Topping (Benjamin Morrisson), Ashley Tuck (Frank Tuck), Nicole Millet, Daniel Alden Edward Topping, Timothy Topping, and Shawn Topping, Jr. Joyce was the proud great-grandmother of five great-grandchildren: Madison, Logan, and Violet Topping; Riley Topping; and Joe Topping.

Joyce was a longtime resident of Guilford, where she worked for many years at Pinchbeck’s Rose Farm and raised her growing family. Joyce was a fifth generation Guilfordite who loved bird watching, gardening, and cooking and played the organ quite well, to the delight of her family members. Her gardening skills brought joy to many, and envy to some. Joyce was an avid rug hooker and taught the art of rug hooking for many years.

At home, Joyce kept pace with the many motorsports and racing activities her husband and sons enjoyed. Always there to offer a cup of coffee and a ready ear to listen, Joyce gave freely of herself to all. Her graciousness, gentle spirit, and loving nature will be greatly missed.

There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, at Alder Brook Cemetery, Boston Post Road, Guilford, for all who wish to attend.
