Deep River

LaVerne Harris, 70, passed away at home surrounded by her family after a long battle with frontotemporal dementia (a variation of Alzheimer’s) on Jan. 6. LaVerne was born in 1951, grew up in Centerbrook, married her high school sweetheart Edmund Harris, and then moved to Deep River. She fought the unwinnable battle long enough to see her 50th wedding anniversary this past year.

LaVerne was an active community member involved in everything her children were involved with. She worked at Whelen Engineering for 38 years. She loved spending time with friends and family.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, June and Vernon, and two brothers, Donald and Vernon. She is survived by her husband Edmund Harris, Sr.; her two children, Edmund Harris, Jr., and Kevin Harris; her daughter-in-law Casey Harris; her two grandchildren, Arianna and Oliver Harris; and her brother Charlie Doane.

Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street, Centerbrook, with a remembrance of life service at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be private in Centerbrook Cemetery the following morning.
