Killingworth

Robert “Bob” Sweeney, longtime resident of Killingworth, peacefully passed away Jan. 2 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. The loving husband of Julie (Masztal) Sweeney, Mr. Sweeney was born in Hartford, son of the late George H. Sweeney and Bernice (Macola) Sweeney. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Gerald Sweeney of Florida. He was the loving father of Pamela (Sweeney) Daley. He is also survived by his nephew Maurice and nieces Elaine, Michelle, and Patti and their families.

Mr. Sweeney attended Hartford schools and graduated from East Hartford High School and joined the Navy. He graduated from the Porter Institute, and also attended Tunxis Community College and Middlesex Community College. Before retirement, Robert worked at Mobil Oil Corporation for 35 years and also owned Sweeney Associates Real Estate for more than 30 years.

He enjoyed summer vacations with his family at Cape Cod, boating, fishing (especially with his daughter), bicycling, going to the gym, and walking at Hammonasset with his wife and dog, Willie.

Friends are invited to pass-through calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at the Guilford Funeral Home, followed by burial with military honors at Evergreen Cemetery, 246 Green Hill Rd, Killingworth. COVID-19 guidelines must be followed; social distancing and face masks must be worn.
