Guilford

Edith “Edie” Orleans Shay, 76, of Guilford passed away on Nov. 23, peacefully at her home with her loving husband by her side after a long battle with cancer. The beloved wife of Mark Shay, Edie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on Feb. 8, 1945, daughter of the late Mr. Oscar Klotter and Mrs. Mildred Klotter (Arns).

She was the loving mother of Dean Shay, Dana Ryan, and Sean Shay; mother-in-law to Lou Shay and Jackie Shay. She is survived by two grandchildren, Amber and Logan Ryan, who loved and were greatly loved by her. She was the sister of Hannah White of Cincinnati, Ohio and Charlotte Suniega of Fort Washington, Maryland. She was predeceased by brothers Oscar Klotter and Harry Klotter and twin sister Katie Popel.

Before retirement, Edie had worked as an assembly worker on the production line at Sikorsky. She had many skills including painting, sewing, refinishing furniture, and many other crafts.

As a much loved wife, mother, and grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, gardening, and antiquing. Gathering with friends, family, and coworkers produced much joy and laughter. Her love of animals including her beloved granddogs who were known to be served steak while her husband got hotdogs. Edie will be greatly missed by all of her friends and family, forever in our hearts and always remembered by her big hugs and warm kisses.

Friends called Nov. 26, at the Guilford Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Nov. 27 at St. George Church, Guilford. Burial was private. To share a memory or leave condolences, visit www.guilfordfuneralhome.com.
