East Haven

Thomas S. Cox, 57, of East Haven passed away at home on Nov. 24, surrounded by his family. He was born June 27, 1964, in New Haven to the late Elwood “Babe” Cox and Joan (Toohey) Cox.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 31 years Alicia Colon, his mother Joan, and his seven siblings, Patricia Cox of East Haven, Michael Cox of East Haven, Elaine Feagin (widow of Willis Feagin) of Gardena, California, Joan Lucas of East Haven, Ellen Clements (Robert) of Villas, New Jersey, and Frances Arsenault (widow of Ricky Arsenault) and Maureen Monaghan (Michael) of Guilford. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Bazin Girma, Enderyas Girma, Megan Harrison (Scott), Richard Sgrignari (Mike), Lauren Clements, Maggie Kaelble (Sean), Sean Monaghan, and Kelsey Monaghan along with five great nieces/nephews, Shiloh Girma, Patrick Harrison, Bradley Harrison, Liam Harrison, and Parker Kaelble. Thomas is survived by Alicia’s family, stepchildren Eddie Hernandez (Antoinette) and Brenda Espada (Frank); grandchildren Anthony Hernandez, Alexis (RJ) Hernandez, Autumn Hernandez (James Anderson), and Frankie Espada; and one great-grandchild, Gabriela Purpora.

Thomas worked for 26 years for HB Ives until its closing and then worked for several years for Tommy K’s. Thomas was an avid golfer and Red Sox fan; he also enjoyed betting on the ponies. He enjoyed watching golf, baseball, football, and horse racing. He looked forward to his annual trips to Saratoga as well as many trips to Lake George and Vermont with family. Thomas was also known for his annual July 4th picnic with firework display at his mom’s house. He also loved the Lord, Lord Calvert that is. Not a day went by that he didn’t play his daily numbers and scratch tickets. He loved listening to music and spending hot summer afternoons having the kids over to enjoy the pool. He will be missed by his many friends.

Family will receive friends from 8:30 to 10:40 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Avenue, East Haven. His funeral procession will then leave for an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven with Committal to follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. Donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 in memory of Thomas Cox.
