Clinton

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the sudden passing of Martin “Marty” Paul Hurley on Oct. 14, at the age of 51. Born Jan. 12, 1970, he resided most of his life in Clinton and then Guilford. He had been a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada since 2014.

Marty is survived by his father, Martin Stephen Hurley; sister, Kimberly (Hurley) Shea; and niece, Clara Shea, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Lee (Mahaney) Cartagena.

Marty was a kind, sensitive, funny, and generous man. As a child, he was placed in a gifted program because of his high I.Q. and intelligence. He enjoyed playing football throughout his youth and carried that love of the game into adulthood with his passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was also an avid New York Yankees fan. He liked to relax by reading, watching movies, and listening to R & B music. He was a huge animal lover.

In 2016 he won the Employee of the Year award at the Wyndham Desert Rose Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was employed. He was a hard worker and well-liked by his coworkers.

Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear.

A celebration of life will take place in the summer of 2022 for close friends and family members.
