Gary “Pop Pop” Mauzy transitioned peacefully on Oct. 19 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by Lisa Mauzy, with whom he shared a supportive, caring, and loving relationship. He is the beloved father to Elizabeth “Lizzy Kat” Mauzy Conti, and Alexandria “Ally Kat” Mauzy. He also leaves behind mother and father Judy and Louis, father Mickey, and brother and sisters Shawn, Lisa, Dee, and Joel and also best friends Bobby and Mike.

His greatest joy in life was becoming a Pop Pop to two very special grandchildren, Carissa “Roo,” who gave Gary his life back, and Baby Joey “Baby Born on My Birthday!” There was nothing in the world more important to Gary than his family.

Gary was the owner operator of Mauzy Tree Service. He was a well-respected tree surgeon who would often be called upon for the tree that no one else would tackle. Gary’s motto was “There is no tree too big or too small, I’ll get ‘em down!” Gary had an immense love and respect for nature. Before he would climb a tree, he would rub the bark and say, “I am sorry.” Gary has had many animals in his life and shared a special bond with each of them.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Sacco and the staff at Connecticut Hospice for their unwavering support and gentle touch that they extended to Gary and the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, 749 East Main Street, Branford CT 06405.
