East Haven

Nicholas D. Langello, Sr., affectionately known as “Pop” by his grandchildren, passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital on Sept. 6. He is the husband of Rose Marie Panzo Langello.

Nick was born in New Haven Nov. 9, 1935, to the late Dominick and Giovannina Errato Langello. He was a retired police officer for the Town of East Haven. He was also an original member and longtime treasurer for the New Haven Order of Police Centurions and a member of the EHPD Local 1662 where he was also an Executive Board member. He was a faithful parishioner and volunteer with St. Vincent dePaul Church.

Nick loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. He could always be seen walking his grandchildren, his pride and joy, around the center of East Haven throughout their childhoods. When not with his family, he could definitely be found playing cards with several groups of friends that he has had for more than 30 years. He had a Monday and Tuesday night card crew. Special to his heart was his basement Wednesday night poker gang with his fellow retired police buddies.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Frances (Fran) Proto of Branford, Nicholas (Helen) Langello, Jr., of Northford, and Teresa Ann (Mark) Papa of North Haven; as well as five grandchildren, Dominick and Nicole Proto, Nicholas III and Dominick Langello, and Samantha Rose Papa. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved son Dominick N. Langello; a brother, Michael Langello; and a sister, Frances Pragano. Also, he was the beloved uncle of several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were handled by the East Haven Memorial Longobardi–Brennan Funeral Home, East Haven. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in the Parish of St. Pio of Pietrelcina at St. Vincent dePaul Church, East Haven. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery.
