Madison

Dr. Frank T. Thomas of Madison passed away on Oct. 5, at the age of 96. Dr. Thomas was born on Dec. 29, 1924, in Southbridge, Massachusetts. After graduation from a local high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a medic from December 1942 to February 1946. He graduated in 1949 from Columbia College and from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1953. After completing his residency in ophthalmology, he practiced for 30 years in Bronxville, NY founding the Bronxville Eye Associates.

An active golfer and tennis player, Frank and his wife Maureen were members at Bonnie Briar Country Club and the Bronxville Field Club. He was also a long-time member of the Bronxville Lion’s Club. After retirement, Maureen and Frank moved to Madison to continue their love of sports and community at the Madison and Clinton country clubs and Old Saybrook Racquet Club. Frank gave back to the community through his tutoring at an elementary school affiliated with a New Haven church.

Frank was a loving doctor, husband, father, and grandfather. His wife Maureen predeceased him and he is survived by his children Laura Thomas, Kathy Urhlass and her husband Raymond, and Steven Thomas and his wife Arleen and his five grandchildren Beth Capiro, Alison Urhlass, Kristen Urhlass, Spencer Thomas, and Abigail Thomas.

Services will be privately arranged by Hawley Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.
