He was a 50-year member of both Madison Lodge #87 AF&AM and Olive Branch, Chapter #87 OES as well as a member of the BPOE Westbrook Elks Lodge #1784. He enjoyed the outdoors, the water, and two-way radios, and he spent his winters in Florida where he had family and friends in Port St. Lucie.

A longtime resident of Clinton, Peter raised a family with his former wife, Mary Ann. They had three children: Christopher Peter, Edward John, and Virginia Susan.

Peter is survived by his beloved partner of 30 years, Rita Williams of Westbrook; his sons Christopher Mazzeo of Clinton and Edward Mazzeo and his wife Laura of Mattituck, New York; his sister Betty Matarese of Unionville; and his brother Lewis Mazzeo of Clinton. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jessica Nicole Mazzeo and Brianna Jean Cameron of Mattituck, New York; his nieces Linda Fasciano of Collinsville, Nicole Fillion of Fort Pierce, Florida, and Elizabeth Mazzeo of Clinton; and dear friend Ralph Williams of Westbrook. He was predeceased by his sister Teresa Urso, his daughter Virginia Mazzeo, and his granddaughter Emily Mazzeo-Maier.

Memorial services and visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Swan Funeral Home in Clinton, followed by 2 p.m. interment with military honors at Indian River Cemetery in Clinton.

In lieu of flowers or other memorial donations, Peter would be grateful for donations in the name of his late granddaughter, Emily, to the charity that helped her and the Mazzeo family so much during her battle with childhood cancer: The Tomorrow Fund 593 Eddy Street, Providence, RI 02903, in memory of Emily Mazzeo-Maier.
