Nicholas “Nick” G. Manzi, 84, of North Haven passed away on Oct. 3 at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven after a long battle with leukemia. He was born on Dec. 28, 1936, in New Haven to Philip Manzi and Angelina DeCerbo.

After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force from which he was honorably discharged in October 1961. He was extremely proud of being a veteran. In 1963 he married his wife Carmela (Connie) Falanga and they recently celebrated their 58th anniversary.

He was devoted to his work and his career as a mechanical engineer. He worked for F.D. Rich in Stamford and retired from Aramark several years ago. He was particularly proud to establish large air conditioning systems at the Museum of Natural History in New York and Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, New York.

Nicholas had multiple hobbies but his major one was to build and fly very detailed model airplanes. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Nicholas was a kind and patient man who always put his family first. He never had an unkind word for anyone and would always encourage others to find the good in any situation. He always listened with his heart and gave the best advice.

He was predeceased by his parents, sister Darlene Tammaro, and brother Phil Manzi. He is survived by his wife, his sons Christopher (Deborah) and Nicholas (Chrissy), his daughter Lisa, and four grandchildren, Erika, Nicholas, LeAnn, and Matthew. He is also survived by a brother, Jay Manzi (Judy) of South Carolina.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, at the Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven. Entombment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery Mausoleum in North Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
