Mary A. Laursen, 94, a longtime resident of Madison, and recently of Evergreen Woods in North Branford, passed away peacefully on Aug. 30. Mary was born on March 3, 1927, in Newark, New Jersey to Pasquale and Josephine (SanFillippo) Grasso. Mary was the devoted and loving wife of George Laursen, spending more than 66 years together prior to George’s death in 2017. Mary will be remembered for her love of arts and crafts, her pride in her Italian heritage, and her deep love of family.

Mary was a graduate of West High School (Newark, New Jersey) and worked the Prudential Insurance Company and for the Madison Police Department over the course of her career. She spent time traveling to all parts of the world with her husband and enjoyed wintering for many years in Sanibel Island, Florida. Sanibel Island was a special place to Mary where she enjoyed long walks on the beach, frequent bike rides with George on their tandem bicycle, and nights out at the local restaurants.

Mary is survived by her son Keith Laursen and his wife Susan (Kneass) of Wallingford, her grandson Kevin Laursen of Seattle, Washington, and her granddaughter Kelsey Laursen of Los Angeles, California. Mary was predeceased by her husband George; her son, Kenneth Laursen; her sisters, Florence Bruno, Josephine Pappas, and Theresa Lembo; and her brothers, Albert Grasso, Dr. Anthony Grasso, Pasquale Grasso, and Joseph Grasso.

Friends are invited to calling hours from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church Street, Guilford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in St. Margaret R.C. Church, 24 Academy Street, Madison. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, 71 Jannas Road, Madison.
