Brenda S. Filley, longtime resident of Guilford, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Aug. 21.

Brenda was born in New Haven, Aug. 3, 1939, daughter of the late Frederick and Dorothy Sweeney.

After attending Beaver College and Stone Business College she raised a family and made a career at McGraw Hill Publishing (previously Dushkin Publishing Group) as a director of production for 25 plus years.

Brenda was an avid tennis player at the Guilford Racquet and Swim Club and played competitive tennis until she was 80. Her passion and joy were her family, and she enjoyed watching all her grandchildren in their activities.

She is predeceased by her brothers Wilson and David Sweeney.

She is survived by her sons James Filley (spouse Sherri), grandchildren Caitlin and Jessica, and great-grandson Ethan and David Filley (spouse Robin) and grandchildren Mike, Brandon, Tyler, Jordan, and Sean. She is also survived by her nieces Heidi, Kathy, Ann, and Nina and nephews Hoyt, Fritz, and Jim.

Services will be held at a time and place to be determined and communicated by the family.
