Matt Eisele, of Wyckoff, New Jersey, passed away on Aug. 22, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Matt was born Feb. 16, 1964, to Joseph and Catherine Eisele.

Predeceased by his parents, Matt is survived by his wife Tara (née Soileau) and teen sons Hudson and Griffin, as well as his siblings Mary C. McArdle of Port Murray, New Jersey, Michael J. Eisele of Madison, Nancy H. Eisele of St. John’s, Florida and his twin sister Colleen S. Eisele of Jacksonville, Florida. Matt also leaves behind countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends, all of whom will miss him terribly.

Raised in Madison, Matt graduated from Daniel Hand High School in 1982 and received an appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, graduating in 1986. Matt served as a Merchant Marine officer before attending Tulane Law School, where was a member of the Order of the Coif, an editor of the Tulane Maritime Law Journal and a magna cum laude graduate. Following a judicial clerkship on the U.S. Court of Appeals, Matt spent 15 years practicing law at Vinson & Elkins in Houston, Texas. In 2006, Matt was named senior vice-president and general counsel of American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier Group Inc., a shipping company in Parsippany, New Jersey, where he worked until his death. Matt also served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserve for 12 years.

Matt greatly enjoyed his work in the law and the maritime industry, but his true love was Tara and his sons, whom he adored. No one who met him will forget his unfailing optimism, his generous nature, or his quick wit. He smiled easily and gave of himself to many. He will be missed.

A private memorial service and interment is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
