Richard “Dick” Clark Lewis, of 29 Broad Street, Guilford, died Aug. 9. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Nov. 22, 1928, to the late Arthur and Adeline Lewis.

After graduating from Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati, he obtained a bachelor of science in physics from University of Cincinnati. And after military service, graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1958. He completed his residency in psychiatry at Yale New Haven Hospital in 1962, and was later certified as a Jungian analyst.

Dr. Lewis married Jane White Lewis in 1957. They settled in Guilford in 1963, where they lived continuously. In addition to raising a family, Dr. Lewis practiced as a psychiatrist for more than 50 years, maintained an active affiliation with Yale Medical School, and held a variety of positions in the C.G. Jung Institute of New York and other professional organizations. He had a wide range of hobbies and loved hiking and gardening, reading, good food and wine, and spending time with friends.

He is survived by his son Mark Lewis of Washington D.C. and Mark’s spouse Yasemin Lewis, grandchildren Tanner Lewis and Daphne Lewis, and his niece Jane Hanselman. He was predeceased by his wife and two sons, Richard and Ian Lewis.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, at Christ Church in New Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Richard C. Lewis, Jr. Memorial Prize Award in Clinical Law at George Washington University Law School, 2000 H Street, NW Washington, DC 20052; or to the Guilford Land Conservation Trust in memory of Richard C. Lewis, P.O. Box 200, Guilford CT, 06437.
