Branford

Gerard T. “Gerry” Hynes of Branford died on Aug. 8, at his home. Gerry was born on Nov. 13, 1957, in Bronx, New York, son of Ann (Nancy) Lardner Hynes of Branford and the late William S. Hynes.

He worked as a printer for the Knights of Columbus in New Haven for more than 30 years prior to retiring. Gerry was a longtime football referee with the New Haven Football Officials Association (NHFOA). He was an avid golfer and was a member for many years in the Eel Pot Golf League at Alling Memorial Golf Course. Gerry also enjoyed crabbing and fishing at the Branford dock.

In addition to his mother Ann (Nancy), Gerry is survived by his wife Kathy Palaia Hynes of Branford; his son Daniel (Sarah) Hynes M.D. of Virginia; his grandchildren Nathan and William Hynes of Virginia; his siblings Rosanne Hynes of Alexandria, Virginia, Christopher (Liz) Hynes of Branford, Kevin (Lynn) Hynes of Yarmouth, Maine, Karen (Jim) Kachadorian of Wilton, and William (Laura) Hynes of Needham, Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12, at St. John Bosco Parish in St. Mary Church, 731 Main Street, Branford. Burial will be private.
