Guilford

Eleanor (Cimino) Zingarella, 93, of Guilford, passed away peacefully on July 23 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony Zingarella. She was born in New Haven on June 26, 1928, daughter to the late Elvira and Andrew Cimino.

Before her retirement, Ellie enjoyed her position at Branford Hills Health Care for more than 20 years. Eleanor was a person of deep faith and was a parishioner of St. John Bosco Parish/St. Mary Church in Branford.

Ellie was a true, loving, and strong matriarch. She was a proud mother, and her family was her life. Ellie knew how to love and her love for those around her never went unnoticed. She was truly a generous and giving person to all. She will be remembered for so many things, but especially her holiday cooking/baking, specifically her meatballs, artichokes, Italian cookies, and cheesecake (without a crack!).

Left to carry on her love and enthusiasm for life are her children, Pasquale Zingarella, Deborah (Anthony) Cimino, and Thomas (Beverly) Zingarella. Eleanor is survived by her loving sister Carol Atkins. Her passing reunited her with her sisters Gloria Johnson, Annabelle Benvigengo, and Audrey Brewer, as well as brothers Pasquale Cimino and Andrew Cimino. She was lovingly called “Nonnie” by nine grandchildren and “Big Nonnie” by 18 great-grandchildren, as well as 3 great-, great-grandchildren. Additionally, Ellie leaves behind her great-niece Korey Herlth, whom she loved very much.

Ellie was honored in a private funeral surrounded by those she loved the most. If you would like to honor Ellie in some way, memorial contributions can be made in her name to CT Hospice or The Lewy Body Dementia Association (https://www.lbda.org/).
