Guilford

On July 18, Michael Scott Stebbins, longtime resident of Guilford, formerly of Wallingford, passed away unexpectedly in his home at the age of 58.

The husband of Kimberly (Riopel) Stebbins, Mike was born in New Haven on Sept. 4, 1962, son of the late Raymond Joseph Stebbins and Christine (D’Antonio) Stebbins. He was the loving father of Summer Elisabeth Stebbins, Mia Marie Stebbins, and Michael Joseph Stebbins, all of Guilford; the brother of Carol Civitillo, Raymond Stebbins (Amy), and Deborah Rodriguez (Fred Lettiero); and a dedicated son-in-law, uncle, and godfather.

Mike graduated from Lyman Hall High School in 1980. Mike had been working for IUOE Local 478 as an operating engineer of heavy equipment for 35 years and was a union rep for many years.

Michael, known lovingly as “Stubby,” was a hardworking family man. He was a devoted husband and proud father, with a strong love for his home and his dogs. He enjoyed cooking/grilling, watching his children play sports, and fishing. Mike was a happy man who always managed to live life to the fullest, with a never-ending supply of funny stories and jokes. Family and friends were what he valued most throughout his life.

Friends were invited to calling hours on July 23, at the Guilford Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on July 24 in St. George Church, Guilford. Burial was private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stebbins Family Education Fund, c/o Kimberly J. Stebbins, 3460 Durham Rd, Guilford, CT 06437 or to Bank of America directly.
