Westbrook

William DeGennaro and Lillian V. DeGennaro of Westbrook passed away in December 2020 of non-COVID related illnesses.

William died Dec. 4, 2020, and Lilian, his wife of 53 years, died Dec. 8, 2020.

They also resided in Rocky Hill, New Haven, and Derby.

Bill was born May 13, 1936, in Derby, to Louis DeGennaro and Lena Sherokow. He attended school in Derby. He enlisted in U.S. Army in 1957 and remained in active reserve until 1962 when he was honorably discharged as sergeant. He became Derby policeman in 1967 and retired after seven years of service.

He met Lillian V. Granberg, daughter of Gustav W. Granberg and Martha W. Bachman in 1967. Bill and Lil were married May 4, 1968.

Lillian was born in New Haven, April 26, 1938. She attended New Haven schools and was a competitive roller skater in dance contests. She was also a member of the Bel Aire Water Ski Club in Ansonia.

They were inseparable during life, traveling extensively throughout the USA especially enjoying Atlantic City and Las Vegas. They were avid fishermen and belonged to several bowling leagues.

For many years they resided in Rocky Hill, where they hosted weekend pool parties each summer for family and friends.

Per their instructions, they will be cremated.

Bill has two surviving relatives, brother Tom of Derby and sister Susanna Foster of Naugatuck.

Lillian has two surviving sisters, Anita Diefendorf of Vermont and Ethel Jones of West Haven.

Bill and Lil spent their final days receiving outstanding care by the wonderful nurses and staff at Hartford Hospice and Palliative Care at 21 Pleasant Street, Middletown. Any donations in their memory should be forwarded to Hartford Hospice and Palliative Care.
