Guilford

Teresa Grace Gilbert (Papa) affectionately known as “Chickie,” longtime resident of Guilford, passed away peacefully on June 30 at her home. Beloved wife of Clarence O. Gilbert and having celebrated their 70th anniversary.

Mrs. Gilbert was born in New Haven on July 6, 1930, daughter of the late James Paul Papa and Grace (Benevento) Papa. She was the loving mother of Gary (Michelle Gagner) Gilbert of Guilford, Shelley Gilbert of Old Saybrook, and Gregg Gilbert of Guilford. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Ryan (Erica) Hocking, Courtney (Tom) Bushnell, and Alyssa Gilbert; four great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Hunter, Benjamin, and Delancey; and a special family friend, Phyllis Gilbert. She was predeceased by her brothers Ralph Papa and Robert Papa and sister Evelyn Bonfiglio.

Before retirement, Teresa had worked as a buyer for Durham Manufacturing for 25 years. She enjoyed cooking for her family for her traditional Sunday dinners with enough food to feed a small army.

Services and burial are being held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Grace Monastery, 11 Race Hill Rd, Guilford, CT or VNA Community Health and Hospice, 753 Boston Post Rd, Guilford, CT 06437.
