Guilford

Guido Dobrila, longtime resident of Guilford, passed away peacefully at his home June 29 surrounded by his loving family. The husband of Gemma M. (Viskovic) Dobrila, Mr. Dobrila was born in Ĺ umber, Croatia, on Sept. 12, 1939, son of the late Peter and Maria (Licul) Dobrila. He was the loving father of Alida Dobrila of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Valdy Dobrila of Tampa, Florida. He is also survived by his brother, Otelo Dobrila of Astoria, Queens, and predeceased by his brother, Bruno Dobrila, also of Astoria.

Before retirement, Guido worked on tug boats for almost 20 years and 13 years at the Guilford Public Works. He was a Guilford volunteer fireman for 28 years with the Washington Engine Company #1. During retirement, he was a bus driver for Guilford Senior Center. Guido enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending countless hours in his vegetable garden, walking and working in the woods, and watching his beloved Yankees beat the Red Sox.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield Street, Guilford. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Lung Association, 45 Ash Street, East Hartford, CT 06108; www.lung.org.
