Deep River

David C. Brainard, 87, passed away the morning of June 30, surrounded by his loving family. David was born April 13, 1934, in Higganum, and moved to Deep River when he was young. David met and married the love of his life, Joan E. O’Keefe, on Jan. 11, 1958. He served in the U.S. Army from December 1956 to December 1958 and then he was transferred to the National Guard where he served from January 1959 to January 1961. He then returned to work with Finast National Stores for many years until his retirement in 1996.

David and Joan enjoyed traveling especially to Cape Cod, Walt Disney World, and any place a cruise ship would take them. He loved life and his family and will be sadly missed.

He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Joan; his parents Nathaniel S. and Clelie A. Brainard, his brother Richard Brainard, and sister Sylvia Brainard. He is survived by his children, daughters Lynn Manken and Kathleen Alexander and sons Alan Brainard and his wife Cathy and John Brainard and his wife Kim. He also leaves numerous grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

David’s funeral service was held in the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, Centerbrook, chapel on July 6 followed by burial in the Fountain Hill Cemetery, Deep River.
