Gertrude Platts Harding, 88

Deep River

Gertrude Platts Harding, 88, of Deep River (formerly of Clinton) passed away May 17.

Trudy (or Gert as some of her friends knew her) was born in Westbrook July 9, 1932, to Irving C. and Sallie Boone Platts. She was the youngest of nine children.

Trudy “Gert” is survived by her children, Claudia Hardy (Jon) of Deep River and James Harding of Easton, Pa.; ten grandchildren, Jason Kennedy (Kristen), Lindsey Harding, Caitlyn Cody (Sean), Andrew McNealy, Sarah Hardy Dell, Jennifer Hanley (Kenny), Jordan Harding, Jillian Hardy, Jessica McNealy, Jacob Harding; six great-grandchildren, Ella, Melody, Lydia Kennedy, Jack and Owen Cody, and Lillian Dell. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward C. Harding; and her daughter, Alison H. McNealy. She was also predeceased by her parents and her eight siblings.

Trudy “Gert” was a proud graduate of the old Morgan School on Main Street, Clinton, Class of 1951. She worked at Whelen Engineering, Inc., Chester, until her retirement. She was a member of the Deep River Congregational Church since 1970, serving in many capacities and being active in church activities when she was able, including being a member of the Chancel Hand Bell Choir for many years.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2021, (what would have been her 89th birthday), at the Deep River Congregational Church with reception to follow in the church Fellowship Hall with food supplied by The Wheatmarket in Chester (Trudy’s favorite place to eat!).

A private burial will be held in the Memorial Garden of the Deep River Congregational Church Cemetery.
