Madison

Frank Douglas Adams, Jr. “Doug” passed away peacefully Friday, June 25 at home. He was born May 18, 1924, grew up in Montclair, N.J., and summered in Madison. Doug graduated from Deerfield Academy, Deerfield, MA, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and graduated from Wesleyan University. His business career started with the Univac Division of Remington Rand and continued for 38 years, serving in New York, Norwalk, Bridgeport, Honolulu, Washington DC, and again in New York. He retired as Assistant to the Chairman of the Sperry Rand Corporation.

Doug married Joan Powell in 1954 and lived in Darien, Honolulu, Chevy Chase, Darien again and retired to Madison. He enjoyed staying active with the Historical Society and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. He was a lifelong member of the Madison Beach Club and the St. Andrew’s Society of New York. Eventually losing his sight to a well fought battle with glaucoma, Doug never lost his positive attitude, his sense of humor and a gracious spirit with all.

Along with Joan, he is survived by two sons, Douglas Cameron Adams (Nancy) and David Powell Adams; five grandchildren, Lisa Henson (Brett), Robert (Emily), Paul (Susanna), Andrew (Rakiah), and Bradford; and seven great-grandchildren: Julia, William, and Matthew Henson; Grace, Mackenzie, and Cora Adams; and Micah Adams. Doug also greatly treasured his canine family members, Brownie, Sam, and Zeke. His dedication to family provided a wonderful and stable role model.
