Greg was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1947, the eldest child of Nicholas Rocco Viscomi and Mary Angela (Lombardo) Viscomi. He grew up in Park Place, Brooklyn with his younger sister, Julia Teresa, in a brownstone filled with his close-knit extended family. The family moved to Howard Beach, Queens in 1965.

Greg excelled in school and earned a full scholarship to Hofstra University, graduating cum laude and completing his studies (in just three years) in 1968. He proposed to Linda Carol DiMarco in Central Park and they were married in July 1970. After graduating from NYU Medical School in 1972, Greg and Linda moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where Greg completed his internship and residency in surgery.

In 1973, they were blessed with the birth of their first child, David Matthew; two years later they welcomed the arrival of a daughter, Rachel Anne; and in 1979 they were (pleasantly) surprised by the arrival of fraternal twins, Laura Therese and Andrew Nicholas. These children became the pride and joy of Greg and Linda’s lives together, and as a family they crossed the globe, visiting dozens of countries on five continents.

After settling the family in Guilford, Greg became a board-certified radiologist, known not only for his technical skill, but for his commitment to patients and his mentoring of young physicians. He was repeatedly honored for his skill as a teacher by the students at Yale Medical School, where he served as chief resident in Diagnostic Radiology. Known by all who loved him as irreverent, witty, meticulous, artistic, and generous to a fault, Greg loved fine food, travel, and fast cars, but he was never happier than when his home was full of family, and friends, and the friends of his family.

His children, their spouses (Carol Villegas, David Solet, and Thad Ozyck), and his grandchildren (Celia Grace, Angela Rose, Lily Lucia, Jacob Gray, Thaddeus Gregory, and Carter Andrew) were a constant source of pride, and his love for them was boundless. Greg passed away June 22, surrounded by loved ones, looking out on the ocean and the Connecticut coastline where he built his medical practice and raised his beautiful family.
