Deep River

Elliot S. “Bud” Platt, Jr., 86, a lifelong resident of Deep River, passed away June 14.

Bud is survived by his wife Barbara; his children Cheri Belz and husband Steven of Old Lyme, Lisa Belval and husband Leo of Ivoryton, Patti Maynard and her husband Todd of Essex, and Michael Platt of Deep River; his grandchildren Jody Dube of Ledyard, Matthew Belz of Old Saybrook, Alexandra Maynard of Essex, Leo Belval of Houston, Texas, Nicholas Maynard of Essex, and Alex Belval of Baltimore, Maryland; and four great-grandchildren. Bud was born Dec. 28, 1934. He was predeceased by his parents Elliot and Lillian Platt and his sister Joan Waldner.

Bud graduated from Valley Regional High School in 1953. He was also a member of the Connecticut National Guard. Bud worked in the family business, Deep River Oil Co. Upon his father’s retirement in 1974, he became the owner and managed the company until 2009. He enjoyed all aspects of the business.

Bud enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox, UConn women’s basketball, and NASCAR Racing.
