Guilford

LCDR Joseph Jean Omer DesRochers, 84, U.S. Navy retired of Guilford, passed away peacefully at Artis Senior Living on May 24. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara Stegina DesRochers. Joseph was born in Chicopee, Massachusetts on Dec. 9, 1936, son of Dr. Jean Baptise and Mrs. Madeline DesRochers.

He attended Branford High School but later graduated from Notre Dame High School. Joseph graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in engineering, and then proudly served our nation for 23 years in the United States Navy. After the Navy, he went on to own an engineering corporation in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He and his wife later “retired” and moved to Guilford to be closer to family. At this time he was then employed by The Town of Guilford as dock master. Joseph loved to travel with his wife, fish with the grandchildren, and visit with the “boys” at The Lee Jones Hunt Club in Virginia.

He is survived by his daughters, Denise Tickell and husband Kurt of Branford and Michelle “Shellie” Rosa and husband Ronald of Guilford. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Elizabeth Hanchuruck and husband Timothy of Centerville, Massachusetts, Kathryn Taylor and her husband Jared of Plympton, Massachusetts, and Alexander Rosa and fiancée Danielle Waters of Albany, New York; and by his three great-granddaughters, Madelynn and Emilie Hanchuruck and Hadley Taylor.

A private family memorial and service will be held at The Guilford Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Joseph has requested memorial donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516, www.WoundedWarriorsproject.org. Godspeed, Dad.
